About Claudia

Professor Claudia Langenberg is Director of the Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI) at Queen Mary University of London. She holds qualifications including MSc, Dr med, PhD and FFPH. She leads research teams at PHURI in London and at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) at Charité in Berlin. She also serves as a consultant in public health at the Department of Health and Social Care and at Barts Health NHS Trust in London.

Her research focuses on the genetic regulation of human metabolism. Her work has advanced the integration of large-scale molecular and clinical data to characterise genetic effects across organs, tissues and cells, contributing to understanding the causes of diverse human diseases. Professor Langenberg studied medicine at the University of Münster in Germany, where she obtained her medical degree and a PhD in medicine. She later earned an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in Epidemiology from University College London. She has held positions including programme leader at the MRC Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge and professor of computational medicine at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité. She is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and has been named in the Best Female Scientists in the World Ranking since 2022. In 2018 she received the Helmholtz International Fellow Award. She was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2025 and a member of Germany’s Leopoldina in 2026. She previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Chief Medical Officer of England’s ‘Generation Genome’ report.
