About Colin

Professor Colin Higgins has been appointed Dean of the La Trobe University Business School, with his appointment commencing on 1 July 2026. He joins La Trobe from Deakin University, where he serves as Deputy Dean of the Deakin Business School and Professor of Management. Professor Higgins brings more than a decade of senior academic leadership experience, including a four-year term as Associate Dean (International) for the Faculty of Business and Law at Deakin University, a role held concurrently with his position as Head of the Department of Management. He completed his PhD in Corporate Citizenship at Deakin University, with a focus on social and environmental reporting. An internationally recognised scholar in corporate responsibility and sustainability, Professor Higgins was until recently Co-Editor-in-Chief of the SAGE journal Business & Society. He is a former President of the Social Issues in Management Division of the Academy of Management and a fellow, former President, and Conference Chair of the International Association for Business & Society (IABS). Professor Higgins has produced more than 20 peer-reviewed outputs and contributed chapters to six book publications. His research focuses on how business organisations use language, with publications spanning management, accounting, corporate responsibility, and sustainability. He has international teaching and leadership experience across universities in the Asia-Pacific region and has held visiting roles at leading schools in the USA and Europe. Outside his university roles, Professor Higgins is an experienced non-executive Director and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
