About Dai

Professor Dai Aoki is a faculty member at the Institute for Materials Research (IMR) of Tohoku University. He earned his B.S. in 1995, M.S. in 1997, and Ph.D. in 2000 from the Graduate School of Science at Osaka University. His career includes positions as Research Fellow at Osaka University, Postdoctoral Fellow at CEA-Grenoble and CNRS-Grenoble in France, Assistant Professor at IMR Tohoku University from 2002 to 2007, and concurrent role as Ingénieur chercheur at CEA-Grenoble from 2007 onward. Since April 2012, he has served as Professor at IMR, Tohoku University, where he heads the Actinide Materials Science Research Laboratory.

Professor Aoki's research focuses on heavy fermion physics in actinide and rare-earth compounds, exploring novel materials and physical phenomena in f-electron systems. His laboratory investigates superconductivity, magnetism, and related properties through single crystal growth and measurements under extreme conditions such as low temperature, high magnetic fields, and high pressure. Notable contributions include the discovery of the first neptunium-based heavy fermion superconductor, NpPd5Al2. He has received several awards, including the Physical Society of Japan Paper Award in 2009, the IUPAP-C5 Young Scientist Prize in Low Temperature Physics in 2008, the Physical Society of Japan Incentive Award for Young Scientist in 2008, the Condensed Matter Science Prize in 2008, and the Harada Incentive Award in 2004. Professor Aoki maintains affiliations with international research efforts in condensed matter physics.
