About Daisuke

Daisuke Ikazaki is a Professor in the Department of Social and Family Economy within the Faculty of Human Sciences and Design at Japan Women's University. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Economics at Kyushu University, followed by a Master’s degree in Economics and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Economics at the same institution. His research focuses on areas including economic growth, environmental economics, sustainable development, population dynamics, and the impacts of natural disasters on regional economies. Ikazaki has held progressively senior positions at Japan Women's University since 2009, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor since 2018. He has also served as Department Chair in the Department of Social and Family Economy and in related graduate programs, as well as Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences and Design from 2023 to 2025. Prior to joining Japan Women's University, he held faculty positions at Kumamoto Gakuen University, including as Department Chair in Economics. Additional appointments include a visiting researcher role at Complutense University of Madrid and current service as Executive Trustee of the Japan Women's University Education Corporation. Ikazaki has received awards from the Japan Section of the Regional Science Association International, including the Award for Book in 2011 and the Award for Paper in 2017. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and books on topics such as childlessness and economic growth, political economy of the environment and corruption, migration, agglomeration effects, and environmental policy. His work appears in journals including the Journal of Demographic Economics, Innovation and Green Development, Regional Science Policy and Practice, and Studies in Regional Science. Ikazaki has served on editorial committees and as a councilor for the Japan Association of Applied Economics, as well as on the Kumamoto City Environmental Council. He maintains active involvement in theoretical and applied economic research with an emphasis on policy implications for growth and sustainability.
