Professor Daniel Laufer is a Professor and Head of the School of Communication Studies at Auckland University of Technology. He joined AUT in January 2025 in this leadership role within the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies. His primary area of expertise is Crisis Management, with research focusing on crisis communications and related topics such as the psychology of blame and customer responses in crisis situations.
Dr Laufer holds a PhD and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin in the United States. Prior to his appointment at AUT, he served as an Associate Professor of Marketing at Victoria University of Wellington, where he was also Head of School and a member of the faculty management team from 2014 to 2017. His academic work includes contributions to publications and special issues on global crisis management, spillover crises, and related themes in international management and business journals. He has collaborated on research examining stakeholder perceptions and crisis response strategies.
