Dr Darren Lipnicki is a Research Fellow with the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) at the University of New South Wales. He serves as the Study Coordinator of COSMIC, the Cohort Studies of Memory in an International Consortium, a role he has held since its inception in 2012. His work focuses on cognitive ageing, dementia risk factors, neuropsychological assessment, Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers, and the intersections of sleep, dreaming, and brain health. Lipnicki contributes to international collaborative research drawing on diverse cohort studies to advance understanding of dementia across global populations.
Lipnicki has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles on topics including disturbing dreams and dementia incidence, poor dream recall and Alzheimer’s biomarkers, trajectories of cognitive decline, lifestyle factors and dementia risk, and health conditions outside the brain in relation to brain ageing. In 2023 he co-authored a book chapter titled ‘Neuropsychological Assessment of Cognitive Aging’ in The SAGE Handbook of Clinical Neuropsychology. He has also contributed editorials and participated in studies examining apathy, depression, social support, fruit and vegetable intake, and cardiometabolic multimorbidity in relation to cognitive outcomes. Lipnicki’s research supports efforts to harmonise ethno-regionally diverse datasets and develop dementia risk prediction models, particularly for low- and middle-income countries.
