Professor David Benton is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Swansea University. His research focuses on nutrition and its influence on the brain, mood and cognition. He holds a DSc and is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, elected in 2021.
After undergraduate training in Psychology, he studied Biochemical Pharmacology. He has examined associations between aspects of biology and psychological functioning. For more than twenty-five years he has investigated how diet can influence brain chemistry and behaviour, with the aim of developing food items or dietary recommendations to support health, mood and cognitive functioning. Funding for this work has come from multi-national food and ingredient manufacturers. He has authored more than two hundred research publications and, over a fifteen-year period, received more than one hundred invitations to speak in over twenty-five countries.
