Professor the Lord David Blunkett is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield. He first joined the University as a mature student in 1969, where he studied Political Theory and Institutions after working to obtain the necessary qualifications through evening classes. He graduated with a BA honours degree in 1972.
In July 2013, he returned to the University as a visiting professor to support work enhancing the experience of undergraduates and the research endeavours of staff in the Department of Politics. In June 2015 he was appointed Professor of Politics in Practice. In August 2015 he was appointed to the House of Lords. He has contributed to the development of the Crick Centre for the Public Understanding of Politics at the University.
