Professor David Green is the Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Worcester, a position he has held since January 2003. In this role, he is accountable to the University’s Board of Governors for strategic leadership, overall performance and management. Under his leadership, the University has grown significantly, with student numbers and revenues more than tripling, and it has achieved full university title in 2005 and Research Degree Awarding Powers in 2010. A Professor of Economics specialising in international finance, David was educated at the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining Worcester, he held senior academic posts at London South Bank University, where he headed the Department of International Business and Languages, Leeds Metropolitan University, where he served as Dean of the Leeds Business School, and the University of West London.
David has worked as a researcher, consultant and economist in the private sector and for SHELTER, the campaign for the homeless, and has engaged in extensive voluntary work in community organisations and for racial equality. From 2006 to 2012, he served on the national Board of the Teaching and Development Agency for Schools. He has also served as a member of the UK’s Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers. David represents the University on Universities UK and GuildHE, and has chaired Universities West Midlands. He is a frequent commentator on educational and economic matters in the media. His authored publications in academic books and journals have focused on financial reform, banking and economic policy. David has received the CBE for services to higher education and the Pride of Worcestershire award. He has lectured at universities and spoken at conferences in Europe, the United States, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Australia, China and Mauritius.
