About David

Professor David Rowlands is Professor of Nutrition, Metabolism and Exercise in the School of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition at Massey University. He holds a PhD from the University of Otago awarded in 2002 and a BSc(Hons) from the University of Canterbury awarded in 1995. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, elected in 2007. Professor Rowlands serves as Director of the Exercise Physiology and Metabolism Lab and the Microvascular and Metabolic Research Group. His research focuses on human health and performance nutrition, with interests including physical performance, metabolism and exercise, obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus, integrative systems biology, genomics and epigenomics, and sport and exercise nutrition.

Professor Rowlands received the 2017 GSSI-ACSM Sport Nutrition Award from the American College of Sports Medicine Foundation for his abstract on multiple transportable carbohydrate in bar-gel-drink format and its impact on long-distance triathlon performance. He maintains active collaborations with public organisations and companies locally and internationally.
