About David

David Marc Virshup is Emeritus Professor in the Signature Research Programme in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology at Duke-NUS Medical School, a collaboration between Duke University and the National University of Singapore. He earned his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1981, followed by a pediatric internship and residency and a hematology-oncology clinical fellowship at the same institution. Prior to his appointment at Duke-NUS, he served as Associate Professor and later Professor at the University of Utah from 1995 to 2007.

Virshup joined Duke-NUS in 2007 as the inaugural Director of the Programme in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology, a role he held until 2025. His research has centered on signal transduction pathways, with particular emphasis on Wnt signaling, circadian rhythms, casein kinase 1, and protein phosphatases. He is a highly cited researcher whose work has advanced understanding in these areas. Virshup maintains affiliations with Duke University School of Medicine as Professor of Pediatrics, Professor in Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, and Professor in Cell Biology, as well as membership in the Duke Cancer Institute.
