Dean Peacock is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health at the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Health Sciences. His work over three decades has centered on advancing health and human rights, with emphasis on gender equality, engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women and children, HIV and AIDS responses, and addressing gun violence as a public health concern. He is the co-founder and former Executive Director of Sonke Gender Justice, a South African organization active across Africa in promoting gender transformation and social justice.
Peacock maintains affiliations with the Violence, Inequality and Power Lab at the University of San Diego and contributes to global initiatives, including the Global Coalition for WHO Action on Firearm Violence. He has co-authored editorials and analyses on firearm injury burdens in South Africa, highlighting impacts on healthcare systems, women, children, and communities.
