About Deborah

Professor Deborah Terry AC is the Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of Queensland, a position she has held since August 2020. She previously served as Vice-Chancellor and President of Curtin University from 2014 to 2020. An internationally recognised scholar in psychology, Professor Terry completed her PhD in Social Psychology at the Australian National University. She began her academic career at UQ’s School of Psychology in 1990, progressing through various academic and leadership roles at the institution up to Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor before her appointment at Curtin. Professor Terry holds a BA (Hons) and PhD from ANU, an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Aberdeen, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (FASSA). She was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2024 for eminent service to tertiary education. Professor Terry currently chairs the Group of Eight and has previously served as Chair of Universities Australia. She is a Fellow and past President of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, an appointed member of the Australian Research Council Advisory Council, and serves on the boards of AARNET and Westpac Scholars, as well as the Universitas 21 Executive Committee. Her distinguished research career in social psychology spans more than 25 years, with contributions to areas including intergroup relations and related topics, reflected in over 20,000 citations across numerous publications.
