Rate My Professor Deepak Sharma

Deepak Sharma is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, where he joined in 2012. He also serves as Associate Faculty and Head of the School of Business at the institute. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in the area of engineering optimization. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati, he worked with international research teams at the Department of Business Technology, Helsinki School of Economics, Finland; the Department of Computer Science, Université de Strasbourg, France; the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore; and the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He was a visiting faculty member at the Industrial Systems Engineering program at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, for a semester in 2015.

Sharma’s research interests include optimization and soft computing techniques, digital twin modeling, generative design, and topology optimization, with applications in design and manufacturing as well as operations research and management. He has published more than 55 research articles in journals and conferences. He has received awards including the NVIDIA Innovation Award in 2014, the DAAD Research Stays fellowship in 2013, and best paper presentation awards at international conferences. Sharma has been involved in sponsored and consultancy projects from agencies such as SERB, DST, and the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. He regularly organizes management development programs on topics including production planning, inventory control, supply chain management, project management, and artificial intelligence.
