About Defeng

Defeng Wang is a former professor at the School of Philosophy, Fudan University. Born in October 1956 in Tai County, Jiangsu Province, he enrolled in the philosophy program at Fudan University in 1978 after working in a factory during the Cultural Revolution. He earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Fudan in 1982 and later completed a master's degree in philosophy at the same institution before beginning his teaching career there. He was promoted to associate professor and later served as a professor and doctoral supervisor. Wang also held administrative roles, including Deputy Dean of Fudan College and Dean of Renzhong College. He retired in October 2021.

Wang's academic work centers on Marxist philosophy, Western philosophy, and Chinese philosophy. His publications include the books Introduction to Philosophy (2000), Marx's Philosophical Revolution and Its Contemporary Significance (2005), and Philosophy of Art (2005). He has translated works such as Karl Jaspers' Man in the Modern Age (2003) and Aaron Redley's Music Philosophy (2007). Wang is known for his lectures on topics including Das Kapital and broader philosophical themes, contributing to discussions on philosophy's relevance in contemporary society through his teaching and public engagements at Fudan University.
