About Deven

Deven Azevedo serves as Project Director of the Open Insights project and Research Group Manager for the Sustainable Energy Systems Integration & Transition (SESIT) group at the University of Victoria. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Simon Fraser University. His work focuses on developing open-source energy-economy datasets, models, and visualization tools for the Canadian modelling and climate policy community through collaboration between SESIT and partnering organizations.

Prior to his role at UVic, Azevedo worked in environmental economic consulting in the United Kingdom, where he led model development teams on climate and nature transition and physical risk modelling for financial institutions. Through his academic work, he has contributed to publications on climate science and environmental economics topics, including co-authorship on papers such as "Do Carbon Taxes Kill Jobs? Firm-level Evidence from British Columbia" (2023) and "Asymmetry in the climate–carbon cycle response to positive and negative CO2 emissions" (2021). He previously received recognition at Simon Fraser University for top marks in intermediate macroeconomics.
