About Devon

Devon Lawrence is an adjunct lecturer at the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), University of the West Indies, Mona campus, in the Business & Economics area. He teaches key courses such as Taxation I (MGMT3051), offered in semesters including S1 and S4 of 2020/21, and Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management. These courses fall under the Accounting & Finance Unit, supporting undergraduate programs in accounting and related fields.

Lawrence holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of the West Indies, Mona, completed in May 2014. His dissertation, supervised by Delroy A. Chevers at MSBM, was titled "A study on the effectiveness of internal audit in Jamaican Commercial Banks." This research culminated in a peer-reviewed publication co-authored with Delroy Chevers, Arlene Laidlaw, and Dane Nicholson: "The Effectiveness of Internal Audit in Jamaican Commercial Banks," published in Accounting and Management Information Systems, volume 15, issue 3, pages 522-541, September 2016. All authors were affiliated with The University of the West Indies, Jamaica. The paper analyzes factors influencing internal audit effectiveness in Jamaican commercial banks, revealing that the quality of audit investigation, organizational independence, professional proficiencies, and management support significantly affect outcomes. It emphasizes internal audit's role in minimizing control weaknesses, identifying risks, and supporting financial health, particularly vital for banks in developing countries like Jamaica facing resource constraints.

Through his adjunct role, Lawrence contributes practical expertise to business and economics education, bridging academic research with real-world applications in taxation, auditing, and financial management.
