About Dheeraj

Prof. Dheeraj Kumar is a Professor (HAG) in the Department of Mining Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, where he also serves as Deputy Director. He earned his M.Tech. from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. With over 21 years of experience in academia, research, consultancy, and administration, Prof. Kumar has held positions including Dean (Innovation), Dean (International Relations & Alumni Affairs), and Associate Dean (Infrastructure).

His research and professional focus centers on mine digitization, Mining 4.0, geospatial technologies, remote sensing, GIS, and automation in mining. He has guided more than 20 Ph.D. scholars and over 50 M.Tech. students, published more than 50 papers in SCI-indexed journals, and completed over 80 industrial projects valued at approximately Rs. 350 million. Prof. Kumar founded the Technology Innovation Hub TEXMiN in mining technology and the ACIC Section 8 company under NITI Aayog, incubating numerous startups and commercializing indigenous mining technologies. He has organized professional development programs training over 700 mining professionals and contributed to national committees on GIS, geodetic systems, and ISRO-related initiatives.
