Diego Luiz Rovaris is a professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). He earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedicine from Universidade Feevale in 2011, followed by a master’s degree in 2013 and a doctoral degree in 2017, both in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He currently leads the PhysioGen Lab – Laboratory of Physiological Genomics of Neurodevelopment at ICB-USP, where his research centers on the genomic and pathophysiological foundations of neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders. His work integrates genetic, epigenetic, environmental, and neurobiological data using multi-omics approaches and emphasizes population diversity, with a particular focus on Brazilian and Latin American cohorts.
Rovaris investigates the genomics of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other neurodevelopmental conditions, gene-environment interactions, and polygenic risk modeling. He has extensive experience coordinating human research studies, including multicenter national and international projects. In addition to his research and teaching roles, he serves on several institutional committees at ICB-USP, including the Research Ethics Committee for Human Subjects, the Research Commission, the Inclusion and Belonging Commission, and the National and International Cooperation Commission. His contributions to the field are reflected in numerous peer-reviewed publications, including high-impact studies on the genetic architecture of ADHD and related psychiatric traits.
