Professor Diwan Singh Rawat serves as Vice Chancellor of Kumaun University in Nainital. He previously held the position of Senior Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Delhi. Professor Rawat earned his M.Sc. in Chemistry from Kumaun University in 1993, securing the first position in the university and receiving a merit certificate. He completed his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1998 from the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, in affiliation with Kumaun University, with a thesis on studies on nitrogen heterocyclics related to purines and xanthines.
His research focuses on the development of small organic molecules as antimalarial, antimicrobial, anticancer, and anti-Parkinson agents, along with nanocatalysis. Professor Rawat has authored over 174 research papers, with more than 7,800 citations, an h-index of 53, and an i10-index of 139. He has also authored a book, contributed book chapters, and holds 22 patents. One of his compounds has advanced to clinical trials for Parkinson’s disease treatment. He has supervised 28 Ph.D. students and served in editorial roles for journals including Nature Scientific Reports and RSC Advances. Professor Rawat is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (FNA), the National Academy of Sciences India (FNASc), and the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), among numerous other honors and awards. He has held visiting professorships, including at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
