About Edith

Edith Elkind is the Ginni Rometty Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University in the McCormick School of Engineering, where she joined the faculty in November 2024. She earned her PhD from Princeton University in 2005. Prior to her appointment at Northwestern, she held academic positions in Israel, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Professor Elkind conducts research on the algorithmic foundations of collective decision-making, with particular emphasis on voting, participatory budgeting, and coalition formation. Her work lies at the intersection of algorithmic game theory and computational social choice. She is a recipient of the SIGAI Autonomous Agents Research Award and a Fellow of EurAI. She has chaired leading conferences in artificial intelligence and algorithmic game theory, including IJCAI, ACM EC, AAMAS, WINE, and COMSOC. She serves as one of the editors-in-chief of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research. Her recent publications address topics such as proportionality in temporal voting, fair division, and participatory budgeting methods.
