Eduardo Rigon Zimmer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He earned a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from UFRGS (2005-2009), a master's degree in Biochemistry from UFRGS (2010-2011), and a PhD in Biochemistry from UFRGS (2011-2015), including a sandwich doctorate period at the Translational Neuroimaging Laboratory at McGill University in Canada (2012-2014). He serves as a permanent advisor for the Graduate Programs in Biological Sciences: Biochemistry (PPGBioq) and Pharmacology and Therapeutics (PPGFT) at UFRGS. He also holds an adjunct professorship at McGill University in Canada and is an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Zimmer has experience in experimental and clinical research in neurochemistry, behavior, and neuroimaging, with emphasis on astrocytes and Alzheimer's disease.
He leads the Zimmer Lab, which focuses on understanding neuron-to-astrocyte communication in neurodegenerative disorders to identify mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapies. His work involves multidisciplinary basic and clinical research conducted with international collaborators, and he contributes as a reviewer for indexed international scientific journals.
