Edwin Tamashiro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto of the Universidade de São Paulo. He earned his medical degree from the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto - USP between 1997 and 2002. He completed his medical residency in Otorhinolaryngology at the Hospital das Clínicas of the FMRP-USP from 2003 to 2005. Tamashiro obtained his PhD in Otorhinolaryngology from the FMRP-USP in 2009, including a sandwich period from 2007 to 2008 at the Division of Rhinology of the University of Pennsylvania under the supervision of Professors Noam Cohen and James Palmer. He conducted postdoctoral research from 2014 to 2015 in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania under Professor Jeffrey Weiser. Since 2010, he has served as a professor in the Division of Otorhinolaryngology at FMRP-USP under a full-time exclusive dedication regime. He holds the Livre-Docência qualification and has been an Associate Professor since 2020. His clinical and surgical practice focuses on Rhinology, Skull Base Surgery, Laryngology, and Voice, with particular emphasis on the treatment of inflammatory and tumoral diseases. His research centers on infectious and inflammatory processes of the upper airways. Tamashiro served as Secretary General of the Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cérvico-Facial in 2017 and 2022. He coordinated the Division of Otorhinolaryngology and the Postgraduate Program in Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at FMRP-USP from 2020 to 2024. Since August 2023, he has presided over the Núcleo de Inovação Tecnológica at the Hospital das Clínicas of FMRP-USP, and since February 2025, he has been Director-President of the Fundação Instituto Pólo Avançado da Saúde de Ribeirão Preto (FIPASE).
