Dr. Eila C. Skinner received her AB in Human Biology from Stanford University in 1976 and her MD from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in 1983. She completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in urology at LAC+USC Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in urologic oncology at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. She served on the faculty at USC from 1990 to 2012 before being recruited to Stanford University as Chair of the Department of Urology in May 2012. She currently holds the position of Thomas A. Stamey Research Professor of Urology and Professor in the University Medical Line in the Department of Urology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she is also a member of the Stanford Cancer Institute.
Dr. Skinner’s clinical and research focus centers on the surgical treatment of locally advanced bladder cancer and urologic oncology more broadly, with particular expertise in bladder reconstruction and continent urinary diversion. Her research examines outcomes for muscle-invasive and high-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, including prognostic and predictive markers, the impact of surgical quality measures, and optimization of lower urinary tract reconstruction following cystectomy. She has led or participated in clinical trials evaluating treatments such as immunotherapy for BCG-unresponsive bladder cancer and comparisons of surgical techniques. Dr. Skinner has received numerous honors, including Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University, Alpha Omega Alpha from USC, multiple teaching awards from USC, and recognition in “Best Doctors” lists for over a decade. She served as a Trustee of the American Board of Urology from 2016 to 2022.
