About Ellen

Ellen Yi-Luen Do is a Professor in the ATLAS Institute and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she also serves as Director of ATLAS Partnerships & Innovation and Director of the ACME Lab. She joined the university in 2017. Her research focuses on computational tools for design, including sketching, creativity, design cognition, creativity support tools, design studies, tangible and embedded interaction, and computing for health and wellness.

Do holds a Ph.D. in Design Computing from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master of Design Studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a bachelor's degree from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. Prior to her appointment at CU Boulder, she held faculty positions at the University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. From 2013 to 2016, she co-directed the Keio-NUS CUTE Center in Singapore. She has authored or co-authored over 170 papers and secured more than $11 million in research funding. Do has served as Design Community Chair for ACM CHI in 2012 and 2013 and holds positions on the steering committees of the ACM TEI, C&C, ISWC, and AH conference series, as well as editorial roles for AIEDAM, the Springer Series on Cultural Computing, and AUSMT.
