Dr. Emad W. Al Shalabi is Associate Professor of Petroleum Engineering in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He holds a B.Sc. degree in petroleum engineering from The Petroleum Institute (now part of Khalifa University) awarded in 2009, an M.Sc. degree in petroleum engineering from the same institution awarded in 2011, and a Ph.D. degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Texas at Austin awarded in 2015. His research interests focus on enhanced and improved oil recovery techniques, reservoir simulation and modeling, geological gas storage, and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Dr. Al Shalabi has authored or co-authored more than 180 scientific journal papers and conference proceedings and has delivered numerous presentations at regional and international conferences. He serves as executive editor for the SPE Journal and as associate editor for the Journal of Geoenergy Science and Engineering, in addition to reviewing for several international journals. He has contributed to the Society of Petroleum Engineers through roles on steering and technical committees, as a moderator, session chair, and judge. Dr. Al Shalabi has received multiple awards, including the 2023 SPE Regional Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty for the Middle East and North Africa Region, the 2022 SPE International Giovanni Paccaloni Young Professional Service Award, the 2021 Faculty Service Excellence Award at Khalifa University, and several SPE Outstanding Technical Reviewer and Service Awards. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas, an SPE Certified Petroleum Engineer, a Certified Project Management Professional, an ABET program evaluator, and has been an SPE member since 2006.
