Enrique Solano served as Distinguished Professor of Physics at Shanghai University from 2018 until late 2022. During this period, he also directed the Quantum Artificial Intelligence for Science and Technology (QuArtist) Center at the university. His academic background includes a PhD in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Prior to his appointment at Shanghai University, Solano held positions as an Ikerbasque Professor at the University of the Basque Country in Spain, where he directed the Quantum Technologies for Information Science (QUTIS) Center, and conducted research at the Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Germany.
Solano’s research focuses on quantum computing, quantum technologies, quantum simulation, and quantum artificial intelligence. He has contributed to numerous publications in these areas, with work appearing in high-impact journals. At Shanghai University, he led initiatives in quantum artificial intelligence through the QuArtist Center, fostering collaborations including events with industry partners such as Huawei. Solano has received recognition for his contributions to the field of quantum information science and technology. His career also includes roles such as Chief Scientific Officer in Quantum Technologies at DeepBlue Technology in Shanghai and CEO of IQM Germany. He maintains affiliations with international quantum research efforts while serving as CEO and co-founder of Kipu Quantum in Berlin, Germany.
