About Erin

Dr Erin Hahn is a Research Scientist at CSIRO’s Australian National Wildlife Collection within the Environomics Future Science Platform. As a conservation geneticist, she specialises in genomic and epigenomic analysis of museum specimens and environmental samples to understand temporal ecosystem responses. She leads projects developing reliable platforms for airborne environmental DNA monitoring, which aims to deliver non-invasive biodiversity data from remote and sensitive ecosystems. Prior to her current role, Dr Hahn completed a postdoctoral position at CSIRO focused on extracting genomic and epigenomic data from century-old formalin-preserved museum specimens, opening new avenues for molecular analysis of historical collections.

Dr Hahn holds a PhD in Genomics from the University of Arizona awarded in 2016 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of New Mexico awarded in 2008. She received a National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship in Comparative Genomics from 2011 to 2014 and was named a Superstar of STEM by Science and Technology Australia for 2021–2022. Dr Hahn is active in science communication, contributing to public understanding of wildlife genomics, historical DNA, and airborne eDNA applications in conservation.
