About Euan

Professor Euan Wallace is Dean of the Sub-Faculty of Clinical and Molecular Medicine at Monash University. An academic obstetrician and gynaecologist by training, he completed his medical and research training at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland before joining Monash University and Monash Health in 1996. He served as Senior Lecturer from 1997, Associate Professor from 2000, and Carl Wood Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 2013 to 2020. During this period, he established the Ritchie Centre in 2010 as a joint venture between Monash University and the Hudson Institute of Medical Research and directed it until 2013. He also held the role of Director of Women’s and Newborn Services at Monash Health from 2006 to 2016, creating Victoria’s largest maternity and gynaecology service.

Professor Wallace later served as the inaugural Chief Executive of Safer Care Victoria from 2017 to 2020 and as Secretary of the Victorian Department of Health from 2020 to 2025, where he led the state’s health response to the COVID-19 pandemic and advanced reforms in mental health, women’s health, and planned surgery. His research focuses on fetal development, maternal health, stem cell biology, and patient safety. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications with over 22,000 citations and an h-index of 78, and held continuous NHMRC funding for more than 20 years. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (2015), a Member of the Order of Australia (2013), recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (2018), and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by Monash University in 2023.
