About Eva

Eva Castro is a Professor of Practice at the Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) pillar of the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). She serves as coordinator of core studio 2 and co-leads the advanced option studio on landscape urbanism. Castro holds a Graduate Design Diploma from the Architectural Association in London (1994–1996) and completed undergraduate and graduate studies in architecture and urbanism at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas (1987–1993). Prior to her current role, she was director of the Landscape Urbanism Unit at Tsinghua University in Beijing and a visiting professor at the Architectural Association in London, where she taught as a diploma unit master and directed the Landscape Urbanism Master program since 2003. She has also held visiting professor positions at the University of Hong Kong and served as honorary professor at Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology.

As a practitioner, Castro is co-founder of Plasma Studio and GroundLab, as well as co-founder of form_axioms lab, a territorial agency for academic research at SUTD. Her work has received recognition including the Next Generation Architects Award, the Young Architect of the Year Award, and the Contract World Award. Selected publications include Critical Territories: From Academia to Praxis (2014, Actar) and contributions to volumes such as Grounds and Envelopes: Reshaping Architecture and the Built Environment (Routledge) and Representing Landscapes: Digital (Routledge, 2015). Her projects and research have been exhibited internationally, including at the Deutsches Architekturzentrum in Berlin and the Architectural Association in London, and she has led designs for major projects such as the Xi’an International Horticultural Expo.
