About Fábio

Fábio Pinheiro is Associate Professor II in the Department of Plant Biology at the Institute of Biology of Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2002), a master's degree in Botany from the Institute of Biosciences at USP (2005), and a doctorate from the same institution in 2010. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Instituto de Botânica (2010–2013) and at Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2013–2016).

Pinheiro has worked on the evolution of Neotropical plants since 1998, employing molecular data and ecological experiments to investigate mechanisms maintaining high diversity in the Neotropical region. His research centers on the evolution of reproductive barriers among lineages and populations in a phylogeographic context, examining hybridization, introgression, selection for divergent habitats, reproductive isolation, speciation, biogeography, and evolutionary ecology. He is a CNPq Productivity Fellow (Level C) and teaches courses including Biogeography and Evolutionary Ecology. His work integrates multiple disciplines and welcomes students interested in reproductive biology, pollination, hybridization, phylogeography, and plant speciation.
