About Felipe

Felipe Villela Gomes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto of the Universidade de São Paulo. He holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Faculdade de Farmácia e Bioquímica of the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, obtained in 2008. He completed his Master's degree (2009-2011) and Ph.D. (2011-2015) in Biological Sciences (Pharmacology) at the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto of the Universidade de São Paulo. From May 2015 to July 2018, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Anthony Grace at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2018, he joined the Universidade de São Paulo as an Assistant Professor and advanced to the position of Associate Professor. His research focuses on the dysregulation of the dopaminergic system, the role of stress as a risk factor in the development of schizophrenia, and the identification of new pharmacological targets for the treatment of schizophrenia, employing behavioral and electrophysiological techniques to investigate neural circuits. He is a member of the Hispanic/Latin American Committee of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. Gomes received the IBRO Return Home Fellowship, the 2020 SIRS Global Schizophrenia Award, and the 2025 SIRS Rising Star Award from the Schizophrenia International Research Society. He was the first Latin American researcher to receive the latter international recognition for young scientists under 40 in the field of schizophrenia research.
