About Fiacre

Associate Professor Fiacre Rougieux is a faculty member in the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University in the field of photovoltaics and semiconductor materials. Between 2012 and 2018, he served as an ARENA Post-doctoral Fellow and subsequently an ARC DECRA fellow at the Australian National University, where he developed high-efficiency and low-cost solar cell concepts, including efficiency records, and created processes to remove defects in solar cells to improve their efficiency.

Fiacre Rougieux is currently an Associate Professor at UNSW, where he leads the Photovoltaic Materials, Devices and Systems group. He has published and co-authored more than 100 papers. His research interests include advanced solar cell processes, system design, and solar cell, module and system degradation. The goal of his team is to engineer the materials, devices and systems required to accelerate the transition to a decarbonised and circular economy, with work at the intersection of materials science, semiconductor physics, solar cells, modules and systems. Recent research successes include the development of advanced characterisation techniques to measure dilute defects in ultra-high efficiency solar cells, novel defect imaging techniques for defects in semiconductors, advanced defect analysis capability using Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy at UNSW, and new recombination analysis theoretical frameworks linking strain and recombination activity in photovoltaic materials.
