Professor Fiona Ducotterd is Chief Scientific Officer of the Alzheimer’s Research UK UCL Drug Discovery Institute at University College London, a position she has held since joining the university in November 2022. She is a Professorial Research Fellow and neuroscientist with more than twenty years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including roles at MSD, GSK, Eisai, and Vertex across the UK, USA, Japan, and China. Her background includes work in drug discovery and development, business development, and strategic alliances. She trained as an electrophysiologist and progressed from bench scientist to project leader and group leader, contributing to drug targets from validation through to regulatory filing.
Professor Ducotterd holds a BSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. At UCL she leads a multidisciplinary team of twenty-four scientists focused on translating novel disease biology into drug discovery projects for neurodegenerative diseases, with an emphasis on dementia. Her research area centers on developing new medicines for these conditions through partnerships with academic innovators, industry, and spin-out companies. She previously spent over two decades in industry settings before transitioning to her current academic leadership role in drug discovery.
