About Flávio

Flávio Codeço Coelho is Associate Professor at the School of Applied Mathematics of Fundação Getulio Vargas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1992), a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1995), and a PhD in Quantitative Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington (1999). His prior appointments include associate professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro from 2001 to 2003, visiting researcher at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz from 2003 to 2008, and postdoctoral researcher at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science in Portugal from 2008 to 2010.

At Fundação Getulio Vargas since 2010, Coelho conducts research in the mathematical, statistical, and computational modeling of infectious diseases. His areas of interest include mathematical modeling of complex population dynamics such as the spread of epidemics, Bayesian inference applied to mathematical models, computational simulations and scientific computing, data mining and visualization, and knowledge representation. He is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the institution.
