About Francesco

Francesco Nicoli is associate professor of European Political Economy at Politecnico di Torino in the Department of Management and Production Engineering. He also serves as adjunct professor of political economy at Ghent University and was previously a non-resident fellow at the Bruegel think tank. Before joining Politecnico di Torino, he held the position of assistant professor at Ghent University following four years at the University of Amsterdam. Dr. Nicoli earned his PhD in Political Economy from the University of Trento.

His research focuses on European integration, economic policy, global and European economic institutions, the economics of space, and experimental survey research, with additional interests in econometrics and causal inference. He routinely publishes in leading journals including the Journal of European Public Policy, the Journal of Common Market Studies, European Union Politics, and the Journal of European Integration. Nicoli serves as associate editor of Humanities and Social Sciences Communications since 2024 and has held visiting researcher positions at the Centro Studi sul Federalismo. He contributes to teaching in areas such as economics, international economic institutions, and experimental methods in survey research at both undergraduate and doctoral levels.
