Francisco Langeani Neto is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Instituto de Biociências, Letras e Ciências Exatas (IBILCE), Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), campus of São José do Rio Preto. He has held this position since 1987. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Universidade Federal de São Carlos in 1981, a master’s degree in Zoology from Universidade de São Paulo in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from Universidade de São Paulo in 1996. His research focuses on the taxonomy and systematics of recent fish groups, with particular emphasis on the ictiofauna of the Alto Rio Paraná basin and orders such as Characiformes and Siluriformes.
Langeani Neto serves as curator of the fish collection at UNESP São José do Rio Preto and is a CNPq Productivity in Research Fellow at Level 2. He has contributed to numerous projects on the biodiversity and taxonomy of Brazilian freshwater fishes, including studies on families such as Hemiodontidae, Loricariidae, and Hypoptopomatinae. His work has supported the description and revision of species and genera in these groups.
