About Franck

Franck Eitel Kemgang Ghomsi is a postdoctoral fellow and research staff member in the Department of Oceanography at the University of Cape Town, affiliated with the Nansen-Tutu Centre for Marine Environmental Research. He holds a BSc in Fundamental Physics, an MSc in Physical Oceanography and Applications, and an MSc in Geophysics and Geoexploration. He joined the Department of Oceanography at the University of Cape Town in November 2021 to pursue PhD studies. His doctoral thesis examined sea level variability in the Tropical Atlantic since 1993 and projections to 2100, with a focus on the Gulf of Guinea, the Eastern Tropical Atlantic Ocean, and southern Africa. Research findings indicate that regional sea level rise along the African coast exceeds global averages and is driven by local climate conditions and extreme events such as Atlantic Niños. As a postdoctoral fellow, his work continues to address physical oceanography topics including sea level trends, steric variability, and coastal impacts along African shorelines.
