About Fred

Fred P. Cocozzelli, Ph.D. is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Government and Politics at St. John's University. He holds a Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research in Comparative Politics and Political Theory, an MIA from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs awarded in 1999, and a BA in World Politics from the Catholic University of America. His research focuses on multilateral interventions, post-conflict reconstruction, social policy, minority rights, and the politics of Kosovo and the greater Balkans. From July 1999 to August 2000, he served as a senior field officer for humanitarian assistance and as a consultant in Kosovo. He is the author of the book War and Social Welfare: Reconstruction after Conflict and a contributor to the volume Social Policy and International Interventions in Southeastern Europe. Additional publications include articles and reports on the role of social policy in post-conflict reconstruction, political parties in Kosovo, and related topics from 2004 to 2007. Cocozzelli's doctoral dissertation examined the reconstruction of the public social welfare system in Kosovo following the 1998-1999 conflict, with more recent work addressing the political integration of Roma, Bosniak, and Turkish minorities in the province. He teaches courses including Contemporary Government and Politics, Foreign Policy of the Major Powers, Politics of Revolution, Politics of Developing Countries, and senior seminars in international relations and American foreign policy.
