Professor Fulufhelo Netswera serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies at the University of Venda, a position he assumed in October 2025. He holds a BA, BA Honours, MPhil, and DPhil from Stellenbosch University, with his doctoral degree awarded in 2005. His academic career spans over 29 years across multiple South African institutions, including roles as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at Durban University of Technology from 2020 to 2025, where he established the DUT Business School and increased postgraduate graduations and research outputs. Prior appointments include Director of the North-West University Business School, Deputy Dean of Research at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Director of Research Management at UNISA, and various research and leadership positions at the Human Sciences Research Council, CSIR, and other universities.
Professor Netswera’s research focuses on public governance, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, higher education policy, and social sciences methods, with over 1,000 citations on Google Scholar. He has authored more than 45 journal articles, 16 book chapters, and edited over 10 academic books and three journal special issues. Notable leadership contributions include founding the BRICS Research Institute, serving as Vice Chairperson of the Southern African Business Schools Association, Editor of the Journal of Commonwealth Youth and Development, and holding board and committee roles such as Non-Executive Director of the HSRC Board and Chairperson of the CHE Reference Group on Transformation of South Africa’s Higher Education Sector.
