Fumitaka Inoue is an Associate Professor and Co-PI in the Bourque Group at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (ASHBi), Kyoto University, where he has served since July 2020. He obtained his PhD from Saitama University in 2008. He completed postdoctoral training at the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology from 2008 to 2012, followed by positions at the University of California, San Francisco, first as a postdoctoral fellow and later as an Assistant Professional Researcher until 2020.
His research focuses on genomics and molecular biology, particularly understanding the human regulome underlying cell differentiation, development, and evolution through the study of gene regulatory elements such as enhancers. Inoue employs genomic and epigenomic techniques including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Cut&Tag, ATAC-seq, and lentivirus-based massively parallel reporter assays (lentiMPRA) in combination with iPS cell and single-cell technologies. He has contributed to publications in high-impact journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Communications, Nature Genetics, and Neuron. Inoue received the Best Poster Award (Runner-up) at the ENCODE consortium meeting in 2018.
