About Gabrielle

Gabrielle Garon-Carrier is an associate professor in the Department of Psychoeducation at the Faculty of Education of Université de Sherbrooke. She holds the Canada Research Chair in School Readiness, Inclusion of Vulnerable Populations, and Social Adjustment and directs the Early Learning and Social Adjustment research lab (LiL Lab). Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in psychology (2010) and a PhD in psychology (2016) from Université Laval, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in developmental psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2017. Prior to her academic appointment as assistant professor in 2019, she worked as a researcher at Employment and Social Development Canada.

Garon-Carrier’s research centers on early determinants of cognitive, social, and mental health outcomes in children, with particular emphasis on school readiness, the impacts of parental leave and childcare services, numeracy development, academic motivation, separation anxiety trajectories, and the inclusion of vulnerable populations in educational settings. She has received multiple recognitions, including the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in 2020, the Prix de la recherche et de la création 2024 from Université de Sherbrooke in the human and social sciences category, the 2023 Québec Science Discovery of the Year award for her work on maternity leave and child separation anxiety, and the 2025 Prix Tremplin. Her contributions advance understanding of factors supporting positive developmental trajectories and inform policies aimed at reducing inequities in early childhood and school environments.
