About Ganesh

Ganesh Bagler is a Professor and Head of the Center for Computational Biology at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT Delhi). He holds a Ph.D. awarded in 2007 from the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. Trained in physics, computer science, and computational biology, Professor Bagler directs the Complex Systems Lab, where his work centers on complex systems, computational biology, network science, and bioinformatics.

Professor Bagler is recognized for pioneering computational gastronomy, an interdisciplinary field that applies data science and artificial intelligence to the study of food, recipes, flavors, and nutrition. His research has explored phenomena such as food pairing in Indian cuisine and the mathematical properties of recipes. In 2024, he received the Mrunalini Devi Puar Oration Award from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He maintains an active research program through databases and tools developed in his lab, including RecipeDB and FlavorDB, supporting studies in culinary science, health, and sustainability.
