About Ganesh

Ganesh Nagaraju is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science in 2003. He conducted postdoctoral research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School from 2003 to 2007. He joined the Indian Institute of Science as faculty in 2007, serving as Associate Professor until 2020, when he was appointed Professor.

His research centers on DNA damage responses, homologous recombination, genome integrity, and mechanisms underlying chromosome instability in genetic diseases and cancer. Key contributions include studies on RAD51 paralogs in replication fork protection and restart, roles in the Fanconi anemia pathway, mitochondrial DNA replication, and FANCJ helicase functions in DNA end resection and gene conversion. He has received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Biological Sciences in 2018, the National Bioscience Award for Career Development in 2015, the Sir C.V. Raman Young Scientist Award in 2015, the B.M. Birla Science Prize in Biology in 2012, and the Prof. K.V. Giri memorial award in 2003. He is a JC Bose National Fellow. Notable publications include papers in Cell Reports (2018, 2019), Nucleic Acids Research (2015, 2017), Molecular and Cellular Biology (2018), and PLoS Genetics (2020). He has delivered invited lectures at international conferences and supervises doctoral and postdoctoral researchers.
