Gastão Inácio Krein is a research professor at the Instituto de Física Teórica of Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). He holds a bachelor's degree in Physics from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1978), a master's degree in Physics from the same institution (1982), and a doctorate in Physics from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1987). His research focuses on the physics of the strong interaction, with emphasis on quantum chromodynamics, chiral symmetry, the quark model, spontaneous symmetry breaking, and charmed mesons. He has extensive experience in elementary particle physics and fields, contributing to studies on heavy-ion collisions, exotic hadrons, and non-perturbative aspects of QCD. Krein previously served as Professor Titular at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria before joining UNESP, where he holds the position of Pesquisador Titular and participates in the institute's deliberative council. He maintains active involvement in research projects supported by FAPESP on topics including the quark-gluon plasma, heavy flavor exotics, and functional methods in QCD.
