About Gaynor

Dr. Gaynor Watson-Creed is Associate Dean, Serving and Engaging Society in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. She holds a BSc from the University of Prince Edward Island (1993), an MSc from the University of Guelph (1997), and an MD from Dalhousie University (1999), along with certifications CCFP and FRCPC. A public health specialist physician, she previously served as Medical Officer of Health for the Halifax area for 12 years and as Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health for Nova Scotia until 2021, when she transitioned to a full-time role at Dalhousie. She currently serves as interim head of the Division of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Watson-Creed has received the Nova Scotia Public Health Champion Award (2013), the William Grigor Award from Doctors Nova Scotia (2017), the President’s Award from Public Health Physicians of Canada (2018), recognition as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women (2019), and the Physician Health Promotion Award. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science from Acadia University in 2021 and has held appointments including membership on the federal Task Force on Women in the Economy and various national population health councils and boards. She is also Chair of the Board of Engage Nova Scotia.

Her work focuses on advancing health equity through education, outreach, and community partnerships within the medical school and broader healthcare system. Dr. Watson-Creed has contributed to public health practice and policy in the Maritimes and nationally, with publications including work on population health topics appearing in peer-reviewed outlets.
