About Gerry

Gerry Tsoukalas is a Full Professor of Information Systems and Dean’s Research Scholar at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, where he also serves as faculty director for Graduate Analytics. He holds a PhD in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University (2013), along with a visiting scholar position at MIT (2011), a Diplôme d’Ingénieur from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace in Toulouse, France, and a BS in Physics from Université Paris VII. His research examines how technology impacts firm operating strategy and financing, with recent focus on blockchain, fintech platforms, digital platforms, AI, and machine learning. Tsoukalas has published extensively in leading journals including Management Science, Operations Research, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. He serves as Associate Editor for Management Science and M&SOM. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a derivatives trader at Morgan Stanley and held roles at Barclays Capital and Société Générale. Tsoukalas maintains secondary appointments as Senior Fellow at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Visiting Professor at IMD Switzerland, Research Fellow at Cornell University’s FinTech Initiative, and Fellow at the Luohan Academy. He is co-founder of the Crypto and Blockchain Economics Research Forum. In 2025, he was selected for the Thinkers50 Radar, recognizing him among emerging global business thinkers shaping the future of management and technology.

Tsoukalas has delivered invited talks and presentations at institutions including Oxford University, London Business School, the American Economic Association, and Luohan Academy. His work addresses topics such as decentralized platforms, governance and tokenomics, supply chain transparency via blockchain, crowdfunding platform design, and the implications of AI for business and operations. He contributes to editorial boards and participates in research presentations on developments in AI and management science.
