Professor Ghassan Aouad is the Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, a position he has held since January 2023. He previously served as President of Applied Science University in Bahrain for over eight years. His academic career includes more than twenty years at the University of Salford, where he held several senior roles including Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation and Dean of the College of Science and Technology. Prior to that, he spent five years in the Department of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University.
Professor Aouad holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Beirut Arab University. He obtained his MSc in Construction in 1987 and his PhD in Integrated Planning Systems for the Construction Industry in 1991, both from Loughborough University. His research focuses on engineering, construction and architectural management. During his time at Salford, he supervised 24 PhD students, externally examined 52 PhD students, authored three major research books, co-authored one book and published 92 papers in top-rated journals. He has also served as President of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
