Distinguished Professor Gordon Wallace is a scientist at the University of Wollongong specializing in electromaterials. He joined the University of Wollongong in 1985 and has led the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute since 1990. He also serves as Director of the Australian National Fabrication Facility Materials Node. Wallace graduated with a BSc Honours in chemistry and physics from Deakin University in 1979 and received his PhD from the same institution in 1983. He later earned a DSc from Deakin University in 2000.
Wallace’s research focuses on intelligent polymers, nanotechnology applications in energy conversion and storage, and medical bionics. He has held positions including Executive Research Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science and Director of the Translational Research Initiative for Cellular Engineering and Printing. His awards include an Australian Laureate Fellowship in 2011, appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2017, and recognition as NSW Scientist of the Year in 2017. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
