About Guilherme

Guilherme Vanoni Polanczyk serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP). He earned his medical degree from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in 2002, followed by residencies in Psychiatry (2005) and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2007) at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. He completed a master's degree (2005) and PhD (2008) in Psychiatry at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, along with postdoctoral training at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London (2008) and at Duke University (2008–2009). In 2016, he obtained his livre-docência in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the Universidade de São Paulo.

At FMUSP, Polanczyk directs the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit and the Early Diagnosis and Interventions Program at the Institute of Psychiatry, Hospital das Clínicas. He also leads the Research Center on Neurodevelopment and Mental Health, serves as Research Director of the Department of Psychiatry, and acts as Deputy Director of the PhD Program in Psychiatry. He holds the position of Vice President of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP). His contributions to the field of child and adolescent mental health are reflected in extensive publications and leadership in research initiatives focused on neurodevelopmental conditions.
